The Kandy Kane Klingers
About five years ago, a friend of mine saw the need for something to fill the long, uneventful gap between Holidays. That something he called "Klinging". Armed with plastic images of Pilgrims, Turkeys and Pumpkins purchased at a local Dollar Store, he drove around and stuck these Klings to friends' cars and trucks by licking the back of the plastic. The klings had no adhesives so they easily came off and caused no damage to the vehicles. Seeing it was good and people liked it, he decided to Kling for Christmas, then Valentines Day, then Saint Patrick's Day, and so on... It was on Christmas of 2003 that Klinging was so named Kandy Kane Klinging, after a few other friends joined in the fun, and they started placing plastic candy canes over the antenna of friends cars.
By Memorial Day of 2004 people started placing "calling cards" beneath the wiper blades stating "You've Been Klinged by the Kandy Kane Klingers". It was at this point that Klinging became legitimized and more mainstream. First Klinging was done only in the lower Naugatuck Valley, but soon grew statewide as some of the Klingers moved to towns outside the Valley.
After a few years of gaining momentum in Connecticut, Klinging burst onto the national scene when friends in Arizona were introduced to the idea. And the party started!
After some thought, the National Klinging Society has decided to start a website for the education and awareness of the Act of Klinging. The project is currently in the works but stay tuned!
